BN members contesting as independent will be expelled: Najib

Barisan Nasional (BN) members contesting as independent candidates will be expelled and expulsion letters will be issued this Monday, said coalition chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The Prime Minister said their expulsion was not BN's fault but their own.

If they remain in BN, he said it would damage the coalition's reputation.

"Party discipline is very important. Personal aspirations should not matter more than the party's interests," he said in a speech to BN members at his pekan residence here today.

Meanwhile in Penang, State Umno chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said Datuk Seri Mohd Shariff Omar risked being expelled by the party for standing as an Independent candidate in Tasek Gelugor, adding that the matter shall be decided by the Umno Disciplinary Committee.
