GRAMMY-award winning thrash metal band Metallica has added a Kuala Lumpur concert date to its Asian tour in August.

The popular metal band, which makes its concert debut here, is slated to play Stadium Merdeka on Aug 21.

“We’ve said it before ... with more than 30 years of travelling around the world behind us, there are very few places that we have yet to explore. So it’s rather thrilling for us to be back with yet another first, a stop in Kuala Lumpur,” said the band in a statement on its official website.

Apart from Kuala Lumpur, Metallica has blocked out the month of August for shows in South Korea, Japan, China and Singapore.

In concert protest, PAS Youth says not like ‘Taliban’

Taliban fighters pose with weapons as they sit in their compound at an undisclosed location in southern Afghanistan May 5, 2011.

PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan today denied his movement was a militant Islamist group after it was branded “Taliban” for protesting an Elton John concert to be held in Genting Highlands next month.

PAS Youth has claimed Malaysia was promoting an unhealthy trend by letting an openly gay artiste perform in the country.

“Do not [misunderstand]... we are not Taliban, we have also never copied Taliban’s style. Our views do not mean we are extreme in our actions, we don’t stop anyone from attending concerts or attack anyone [who attends concerts],” Nasrudin said when contacted .

Yesterday, former Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin hit out at PAS’s vocal youth wing for its “extremist” stand against the popular performer.
