Valuer: Incomplete build reason for RM3.5m Khir mansion price

Unfinished building construction was the reason why Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo’s mansion and land was valued at RM3.5 million, the former Selangor mentri besar’s corruption trial was told today.

Choy Yue Kwong, a valuer from Rahim & Co that had been appointed by HSBC to value the price of Dr Mohamad Khir’s palatial home, testified that even RM 5.5 million was too high a value to put on the mansion.

He said that there was no reason why anyone should “overpay [for] property,” especially a house that was not yet fully constructed.

Responding to a query from defence lawyer Datuk Jahabardeen Mohamed Yunoos, Choy said that anyone who saw Khir’s mansion at the time of purchase and still bought it any amount beyond RM5 million was “not a prudent buyer.”

The prosecution in the graft trial of former Selangor Mentri Besar Dr. Mohd Khir Toyo closed its case yesterday after calling its 25th witness, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission acting senior superintendent Chang Ching.

In his testimony, Chang said under cross examination by lead defence counsel M. Athimulan that he had warned Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Hayroni about the consequences of lying when having his statement recorded.

He said a total of 13 statements were recorded from Shamsuddin.

“Before the charge, we recorded eight statements under Section 30(3)(b) of the MACC Act 2009,” he said.

He said Shamsuddin gave his ninth statement after he was arrested, and then subsequently he gave four more statements.

No choice but to sell property to Khir Toyo for RM3.5m half the origin market price

A company director told the High Court here today that he had to sell two plots of land and a bungalow here at a price of RM3.5 million to former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo in 2007 for fear of jeopardising his housing projects in Selangor.

Ditamas Sdn Bhd (Ditamas) director Shamsuddin Hayroni said he had to do so after taking into considerations his position as a businessman in Selangor and Mohamad Khir's position as the then menteri besar.

"Mohamad Khir and I had discussed the price in 2004 and he wanted the property to be sold at RM3.5 million. I personally did not agree because it was too low and I told him that it should be at least between RM5 million to RM5.5 million.

"When I bought the property, it was priced at RM5 million and with renovation cost of RM1.5 million, the price should be RM6.5 million. I gave him a little discount and set the price at RM5.5 million, but Mohamad Khir did not agree with the price, saying that he could only afford RM3.5 million," he said when questioned by deputy public prosecutor, Abdul Wahab Mohamed.

A company director told the High Court here today that he sold his mansion and two plots of land to Dr Mohd Khir Toyo for RM3.5 million despite buying the properties for RM6.5 million as he feared for his business in Selangor.

Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Hayroni testified in the corruption trial of the former Selangor mentri besar that Dr Khir had rejected his offer of between RM5 million and RM5.5 million, insisting instead on buying his properties in Section 7 here for just RM3.5 million.

Khir Toyo: ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi’ not racist

Dr Khir: I always wonder why when Malays speak of their native rights it is seen as racist but not when the Chinese speak of their Chinese schools, Chinese language and Chinese economic power.
The “1Melayu, 1Bumi” movement is not racist for wanting to unify Malays politically, Dr Khir Toyo has said.

Calling the movement spearheaded by Malay rights group Perkasa as “legitimate and noble”, the former Selangor mentri besar questioned why Malays were seen as racist when speaking of Malay unity while other races could speak of their respective unity without objection from the Malays.

“I always wonder why when Malays speak of their native rights it is seen as racist but not when the Chinese speak of their Chinese schools, Chinese language and Chinese economic power,” he said on his blog yesterday.
