PKR won’t boycott swearing in of MPs

PKR will not snub the swearing in of its elected representatives and denied ever making the suggestion, party deputy president Azmin Ali has said, after the move drew criticism even from both sides of the divide, including the party’s own allies in Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“There has been speculation in the media that KEADILAN may boycott the swearing-in ceremony of MPs at the Dewan Rakyat on June 24, 2013. I wish to state categorically that at no point of time did KEADILAN decide to carry out any boycott of the oath-taking process.

GE13: Azmin Ali questions Wan Azizah

Azmin flanked by his supporters while speaking to reporters in Petaling Jaya.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has launched a thinly veiled attack against president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for failing to consult Selangor party leaders over who should be the mentri besar.

The Selangor PKR chief had fired the first salvo a day earlier by saying that the next mentri besar should not be a “lame duck” who allowed himself to be led by others.

The reference was seen as a dig at Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

At a packed press conference yesterday, Azmin said Dr Wan Azizah had sent a letter to the palace endorsing a particular candidate for the post without the knowledge of state PKR leaders.

Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid to stand in Port Klang

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will be contesting the Port Klang state seat in the 13th general election on May 5, leaving the Ijok seat which he won in 2008.

This was confirmed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at an opposition forum held at the AU2 football field in Taman Keramat, here, tonight.

The PKR candidate for Ijok will be its Federal Territory chairman, Dr Idris Ahmad.

"All the seats in Selangor have been finalised except for the Kota Damansara state seat held by the Socialist Party of Malaysia, which will be announced tomorrow," said Anwar.

Police have no plans to close roads Monday morning, adds DCP Mohamad


Organisers of the Free Anwar 901 rally to be held Monday were informed of 10 conditions during a meeting with police Friday and had agreed to them, City police chief DCP Mohamad Salleh said.

Calling PKR deputy president Azmin Ali a liar, he showed reporters at a press conference here Sunday, a letter signed by PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Amin bearing the 10 conditions and photos of the meeting where Samsul signed the letter.

DCP Mohamad also said he had not heard from the organisers for a second discussion and also did not want to meet with them again as they have been dishonest.

He said the 10 conditions were discussed and agreed with Azmin on Friday, drafted and signed at the Sentul police station by Shamsul on Saturday.

“We took a picture during the discussion and we have a signed copy of the conditions with PKR's agreement,” he added.

Azmin says Tenang a victory over MCA

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said today that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) can still claim a victory within the Tenang by-election loss — the gain in Chinese votes.

PR’s PAS candidate was able to garner an increase in Chinese votes despite the state seat being a MCA strong-hold.

“Overall I must say, even though we lost in the by-election but we have seen a major shift of support especially among the Chinese voters in Labis.

Azmin taunts Najib over highway toll freeze

Azmin Ali of PKR claim Najib concession on tolls mimic the PKR reform plan.

Azmin Ali has claimed victory in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s decision to freeze and abolish the tolls for several highways today, saying that it was a concession on the part of the prime minister that Pakatan Rakyat’s reform proposals are workable.

The PKR deputy president also suggested that Najib’s refusal to participate in a debate over the latter’s allegations that the Pakatan Rakyat reforms would bankrupt the country is another sign of admission on the part of the prime minister.

“Now that the prime minister has quietly conceded on the practicality and economic viability of Buku Jingga’s promises, I can fully understand his refusal to take up the challenge for a debate with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” said Azmin (picture).
