Two charged over assault on national boxer

Two men, including a VVIP, were charged in a Session's Court here Monday over the assault on 24-year-old national boxer Muhamad Farkhan Mohd Haron in May.

Tunku Nick Tazuddin Izwan Shah Tunku Qadir, 27, of Istana Bukit Kesenangan, Jalan Abdul Samad, and Alex Foo Hee Wee, 41, of Taman Seri Tebrau, were charged with committing the offence, along with four others still at large, at Jalan Moleh 3/2, Taman Molek between 4.30am and 7am on May 6.

Both men appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing hurt to the boxer using a blunt object.



The charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail sentence of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping upon conviction.

Judge Zamri Bakar set bail at RM12,000 each and both posted bail.

The judge also set July 12 for next mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Dzul Iswari Mohd Jaafar prosecuted while Mohamad Isa Mohamad Basir represented the accused.

It was previously reported that Muhamad Farkhan, who won a gold at the 2009 SEA Games in Laos, was beaten up by a group of men.

The boxer was said to had suffered a broken cheekbone and other bodily injuries after the incident.

Muhamad Farkhan, who took up boxing at the age of 13, was nominated for the prestigious National Sports Council award last year.
