A 42-year-old babysitter was charged with the murder of a 4-month-old baby whose body was found at a park here late last month.

The proceedings were conducted at the Batu Pahat Hospital, where Tan is receiving treatment for a fractured leg, before Batu Pahat Sessions Court registrar Rosmaliana Osman.

Tan, who was unrepresented, appeared calm as the charge was read in Mandarin and nodded when asked if she understood the charge.

Deputy public prosecutor Safiah Abdul Aziz did not offer any bail for Tan. Rosmaliana then set July 11 for mention.

The baby’s body was found by joggers under a tree at the Tasik Y Recreational Park at 7pm on May 31.

The babysitter had claimed to have taken the victim in a Proton Wira to the park at 4.30am the day before as she had wanted to put up flyers on her babysitting services there. While there, the woman claimed she was abducted by three men and taken away in a car.

She said she managed to escape when the car stopped near the Batu Pahat Stadium.

She also claimed to have injured her leg when she fell while fleeing the assailants.
