Disability no excuse for Teh

Having a disability has not dampened Teh Geok Choon’s zest from helping other unfortunate individuals.

Having lost his leg when he was 13 years old, Teh, now 54, has overcome his adversity with the aid of a prosthetic leg and family support.

He knew this was his calling — helping others who lost their legs or those who were born without them acquire prosthetics.

Having lost his leg when he was 13 years old, Teh, now 54, has overcome his adversity with the aid of a prosthetic leg and family support.

He knew this was his calling — helping others who lost their legs or those who were born without them acquire prosthetics.

After 25 years of dedication, he has never looked back. The salesman and technician for a company which specialise in prosthetics has since helped more than 1,000 people.

For his dedication, Teh was presented with the Best Disabled Employee Award during a special programme by Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Dun here recently.

The programme, jointly organised by the Social Security Organisation, Human Resource Department and the state Welfare Services Department, was held to recognise the contribution of exemplary individuals who are disabled as well as those who help the handicapped.

“Helping others gives me satisfaction. I know how they feel because I have been through that struggle,” said Teo, who not only sells prosthetics but also teaches people how to get used to them.

The company where he works, KK Prosthetics and Orthopedic Equipment Sdn Bhd, also employs five others who use prosthetics.
