Perak’s ‘calming’ way for ladies in peril

x
THE state plans to check attacks on women in public places by giving them a tip or two on martial arts.

A non-governmental organisation, meanwhile, moots smart parking to prevent any untoward incidents at shopping mall.

*STATE EXCO IN CHARGE OF WOMEN AFFAIRS DATUK HAMIDAH OSMAN :

We have a programme called Peka (Pohon, Endah, Keselamatan Anda) in all the 10 districts weekly for women to learn on how to react when attacked.

They will help women to overcome panic and react fast and be more alert with their surroundings. Women must ensure that they do nothing to attract criminals.

*PERAK WOMEN FOR WOMEN SOCIETY PRESIDENT DR SHARIFAH HALIMAH JAAFAR (pic):

Shopping complexes should offer discounts for valet parking to women shoppers who come alone.

The malls should allocate parking bays close to the exit and have continuous security guard presence.

These measures will at least reduce the risk to women coming to malls alone.

It is ridiculous to expect women to stay indoors just because of the violent cases against women.

When one shopping centre makes a positive move, others will follow as it will be a factor of competition on which mall can offer the best safety for female shoppers.
