Baby chokes to death

c
ANOTHER infant has died after choking on milk, the latest fatality involving the grandson of a former boss of national news agency Bernama.

Two-month-old Mohd Affan Syahin Mohd Rizal was found unconscious at the childcare centre where his mother had left him several hours earlier, said Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, a former Bernama general manager.

Berita Harian reported that Mohd Affan's death was among seven cases involving infants who had choked on milk this year.

Mohd Affan's caregiver, who operates a centre at Flora Damansara, had rushed the unconscious child to Hospital Sungai Buloh after the 11am discovery on Wednesday.

But doctors found that the baby had been dead for four hours, the daily reported.

“I asked the caregiver how my baby's position was when he slept, and they said he was sleeping face down,” said Mohd Affan's mother Shafariza Abdul Rahim.

“The post-mortem confirmed that he died choking on milk.”

Petaling Jaya district police chief Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed said the case had been classified as sudden death and that investigations were ongoing.

Mohd Affan's body was buried at Taman Selasih muslim cemetery in Batu Caves on the same night he died.
