Selangor is open to any investigation — internally or by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) — over allegations that the state government had misused public funds, the Mentri Besar’s office said today.
Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s political secretary Faekah Husin dismissed the allegation by Umno that the state paid for the hotel rooms of delegates attending the PKR congress last December.
She said the money was for state guests from Sabah and Sarawak.
“It is surprising why the issue was raised because it is a norm for state government to receive guests from out the state.
“It is obvious that he was referring to the state guests from Sabah and Sarawak that were on an official visit to meet with the Selangor Mentri Besar,” Faekah said in a statement, referring to claims by Selangor Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar.
Noh claimed on Thursday that the state had used Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) to arrange and finance the lodging for delegates during the congress.
Noh added that Barisan Nasional (BN) Selangor Youth will lodge a report to MACC.
“We were informed that MBI had booked 100 rooms to place their delegates and that MBI had paid RM80,000 for the rooms,” said Noh.
According to the documents Noh had shown to reporters, the said hotel is located at Section 52 in Petaling Jaya.
MBI is the parent company of all Selangor state subsidiaries.
Faekah added that the state government supports transparency and will not hide any information from the public.
Khalid refused to comment on the issue when met by reporters earlier today.
