BN ready to face both by-elections, says Muhyiddin

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today the Barisan Nasional (BN) was ready to face the Kerdau and Merlimau by-elections, which will be held simultaneously, and retain the two state seats.

"The BN has served long in the two constituencies. Our elected representatives have served their constituents well. We hope to win by bigger majorities," he said after receiving contributions for flood victims in his parliamentary constituency of Pagoh, here.

Nomination for the two seats, Kerdau in Pahang and Merlimau in Malacca, is on Feb 26 and polling on March 6.

Muhyiddin said he would announce the BN candidates for Kerdau and Merlimau on Feb 22 and 23, respectively.

Among the contributors of aid at today's function was the Aceh community in Malaysia, reciprocating the aid extended by Malaysians to the people of Aceh after the tsunami hit Indonesia six years ago.

The aid was presented to Muhyiddin by the chairman of the Persatuan Anak-anak Aceh Malaysia, Md Lazim Wartib.

The association was among the 41 NGOs, companies and philanthropists who made donations for the more than 15,000 flood victims in the constituency.

Another donor was Proton Holdings Bhd, which contributed 500 gas stoves, 2,000 school bags, 500 T-shirts and 500 towels. They were handed over by its managing director, Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir.
