PAS will name its candidates for the Kerdau and Merlimau state seats in Pahang and Malacca on February 24, party vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said today.
PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat will announce the candidate for Kerdau while party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will name the contestant for Merlimau, he said.
The Kerdau and Merlimau by-elections will be held simultaneously on March 6, with February 26 fixed for nominations.
Tuan Ibrahim told reporters at a PAS Youth gathering at Kota Serang Semut near here that the party would be ready for the by-elections despite the “short notice”.
The Kerdau by-election follows the death of Barisan Nasional assemblyman Zaharuddin Abu Kassim on February 12 of a heart attack.
The Merlimau seat fell vacant with the death of BN assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Hidhir Abu Hassan, also of a heart attack, on January 20.
