Michelle Yeoh and Zang Toi set to receive honours



Celebrated actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh and fashion icon Zang Toi are both said to be on the list of honours to be awarded by the King on his birthday.

Yeoh is on the list of people to be awarded the title of Tan Sri this Saturday, June 1.

According to a family member, Hong Kong-based Yeoh is busy working in Paris, but will be returning to Malaysia on Thursday, May 30 to prepare for the ceremony.

Michelle's fianc Jean Todt could also be attending the occasion.

Yeoh, 49 was born in Ipoh, Perak on Aug 6, 1963.

An actress of repute, she made her name as an action star in the Hong Kong film industry, and shot to international fame for her role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

This was followed by a starring role in the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. Her last significant role saw her portray Myanmar activist Aung San Suu Kyi in The Lady.

She is also a former Miss Malaysia, and represented the country at the Miss World pageant in 1983.

Yeoh was awarded the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak (SPMP) which carries the title Datuk Seri from the Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah on May 22, 2012.

She was also awarded the Officier de la Lgion d'honneur by then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy on March 14, 2012.

Another Malaysian celebrity, fashion designer Zang Toi, 51, is on the honours list for a datukship.

Toi, who was born and raised in Kelantan, studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York where he is now based.

In 1990, Zang was awarded the Mouton Cadet Young Designer of the Year which recognizes the top young US designer of the year.

He has since dressed many Hollywood actresses such as Sharon Stone, Meg Ryan and Eva Longoria and other celebrities including Melinda Gates.
