2 Perak opposition politicians charged under Peaceful Assembly Act

For the first time in Perak, two opposition politicians have been charged under the Peaceful Assembly Act for organising political gatherings without permits.

DAP's Thomas Su Keong Siong, 47, and PKR's Anuar Zakaria, 45, were both charged at the Ipoh Sessions court this morning for holding illegal gatherings on separate occasions.

Su, who is DAP member of Parliament for Ipoh Timur, was charged for organising a DAP ceramah at Dewan Chin Woo here on May 9.

While Anuar, who is Perak PKR secretary, was accused of organising the "Blackout 505" rally at Medan Istana on May 12.

Both of them claimed trial to the charges framed under Section 9(1) of the Act for failure to give 10 days notice to the Ipoh police chief before holding the gatherings.

Su was represented by lead counsel Gobind Singh Deo .while Anuar was by lead counsel Baldip Singh.

Deputy public prosecute Masri Mohd Daud led the prosecution side.

Sessions judge Julie Lack Abdullah ordered bail of RM4,000 on each of them.
