A Myanmar national created a scene at the Chai Leng Park police station early this morning when he grabbed a pistol from a policeman manning the front-desk and fired three wild shots in the premises.
The 2am drama unfolded when the 33-year-old suspect arrived at the police station to lodge a report over a fight in Taman Inderawasih flats and claimed that someone had threatened him.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said acting on the information, the police motorcycles patrol unit were deployed to the scene.
However, the policemen discovered that there was no such case and informed this to the personnel who was attending to the immigrant's report.
Mazlan said upon hearing this, the complainant suddenly jumped over the desk and charged at the policeman on duty before grabbing the latter's pistol.
"The policeman managed to shove the suspect away and dashed out from the police station before hearing several shots fired in the building," he said when contacted.
Minutes later, the suspect walked out from the police station and planted the pistol on his head before pulling the trigger.
Fortunately, the pistol got jammed, allowing the policemen to subdue the suspect and recovered the gun.
Mazlan said the suspect had been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for medical assessment.
