Police have scored a double success by busting a motorcycle theft syndicate and an armed robbery gang operating in the northern region with the arrests of 19 people in connection with some 40 cases.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah yesterday said the two groups were responsible for a string of thefts and robberies in Penang, Perlis, Kedah and northern Perak.
He said police busted the motorcycle theft syndicate known as "Geng Baling" with the arrests of 10 suspects, including two female teenagers, following a tip-off on Sunday.
Mazlan said two gang masterminds had been arrested -- a 27-year-old university undergraduate and his 16-year-old girlfriend -- behind Queensbay Mall in Bayan Baru.
