Salesman fined RM5,000 for causing lorry driver's death

A salesman was fined RM5,000 in default five months' jail by the Ampang Magistrate's Court here today after he pleaded guilty to driving recklessly and accidentally causing the death of a lorry driver who was helping a couple involved in an accident at the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) near Kampung Pandan three weeks ago.

Magistrate Aida Mastura Mohamed Aman also ordered Khoo Kim Chuan's driving licence to be endorsed and written with offence.

Khoo was guilty of driving a Toyota Estima car with registration number WQR9883 in a reckless manner to the extent of hitting lorry driver Ong Kin Koon who was trying to help the couple after their Perodua Viva car with registration number WTL9017 was hit by another car driven by an insurance agent, Ben Si Shen, 26, at about 12.30pm on April 12.



In the same proceedings, Ben also pleaded guilty to causing an accident on the couple's car and was fined RM6,500 in default six months' jail by the court.

The court also ordered Ben's driving licence to be endorsed and written with the offence.

Meanwhile, Ong's son, Kah Hui, 27, told reporters that he and his family would take further action after being dissatisfied with the court's decision.

He said his father was severely injured in the accident and had succumbed to his injuries 10 days later.

Deputy public prosecutor Fauziah Hanim Abuhan prosecuted.
