RUHAINAH: Only leaves home for follow-up treatment
'Acid-splashed' victim Ruhainah Husin, 30, has been staying indoors since she was attacked two months ago and only leaves home for follow-up treatment of her injuries.
"I'm frightened to be in the open as the attack continues to haunt me. I've been staying indoors except for going to the hospital for treatment,” said the Malaysian Institute of Accountants executive who has been on medical leave since the attack on her and a colleague on March 24 in Brickfields.
In the 5.30pm incident, Ruhainah and her colleague had finished work and were walking to their cars in Jalan Scott, off Jalan Tun Sambanthan, when they were attacked. Her colleague sustained slight injuries.
Ruhainah suffered serious injuries on her face and could only remove the bandages after several weeks.
Doctors also prescribed a serum for her scars.
Ruhainah, a newly-wed, said she was not sure if she could resume work on June 5. Her office is near where she was attacked.
"I don't know if I'm ready to move around in Brickfields as the suspect is still at large."
Since March 2, there have been at least 10 acid-splashing cases injuring 23 people, most of them women and children, and mainly in KL (except for one case in Ampang, Selangor and another in Mantin, Negri Sembilan).
The latest attack was on a police officer's 30-year-old daughter last Friday in Wangsa Maju.
The attacks were often at places with heavy traffic and constant movement of people as it was easier for the splasher to target victims and flee.
