Jais nabs four suspected members of deviant cult

The Selangor Religious Department (Jais) has detained four suspected members of the Huazah Ar-Ridha cult at a mass Shiite gathering in Gombak on Tuesday.

About 200 people attended the event themed Women’s Role in Solving Global Issues and Universal Harmony that was organised to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Fati-mah.

Jais director Marzuki Hussin said that there was nothing wrong in celebrating Fatimah’s birthday but his department was responsible for checking on Shiite followers who were spreading their teachings that had been declared a deviant ideology.

Those detained were Mohd Kamilzuhairi Abd Aziz, 45, Radin Ahmad Faizul Radin Mohamad Hambali, 39, Mohd Asyraf Ahmad, 26, and Syed Mohd Shafik Syed Hussin.

They will be charged at the Gombak Syariah Court once investigations have been completed.

It was reported in a Malay daily that 128 Shiite followers were detained at a two-storey shophouse in Taman Sri Gombak last year when they attended a ceramah to commemorate the death of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussain.

In 1996 Malaysian Muslim clerics isssued a fatwa banning Shiite teachings that promoted various ideologies that went against Sunni Muslim teachings.
