Don't be arrogant, Hishammuddin reminds Umno members
Umno members have been reminded not to be arrogant over the party's strengths as such an attitude may be detrimental to Umno and the Malay community.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said they should discard the perception that they needed to put themselves in a position of strength within the party.
He said this when opening the Pulai Umno divisional meeting here Sunday.
Hishammuddin, who is the Home Minister, told reporters later that under the banner of Barisan Nasional, Umno's struggle was meant to benefit all communities.
This should be allowed to take place in a climate of respect where the rights of the Malays should not be put into question, he added.
Hishammuddin stressed that issues of a sensitive nature affecting the various races should be discussed rationally, and not played up to derive political mileage as well as divide and instil fear among the people.
He also pointed out that the opposition was in a disarray, mired in divisiveness, and prone to making conflicting stands and empty promises.
"Umno needs to put its house in order, unite and serve the people well," he added.
