Tuanku Ismail Petra leaving Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia yesterday, May 9, 2010, to return to Istana Mahkota
The Sultan of Kelantan has expressed happiness on returning to his palace a day after his discharge from a Kota Baru hospital to the point of asking for ice-cream as a treat, a royal relative said today.
Tuanku Ismail Petra is also accepting treatment in his Istana Mahkota after refusing similar medical expertise during his five-day stay at the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Kubang Kerian, his elder sister Tengku Merjan Sultan Yahya Petra.
“His Highness’ happiness is so apparent than when he was in hospital. When he reached Istana Mahkota last night, we saw his joyful expression that he even asked for ice-cream, anything that he wanted to eat,” she added.
The Ruler was sent home yesterday after his eldest prince and Regent, Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra, consented to the transfer. The ailing state monarch had applied for a habeas corpus last Friday to get him out of the hospital. The hearing for the application was postponed when the Special Court could not complete its five-member coram today.
Tengku Merjan said her brother was being treated by doctors and nurses from the Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab (HRPZ) II.
“Thank God. I see that His Highness is now more comfortable being treated here,” she said, referring to the Istana Mahkota.
“His blood pressure has also dropped and his sleep is not disturbed,” she added.
Asked if the Ruler would be sent to Singapore again or other hospitals for follow-up treatment, Tengku Merjan said she was unsure of the next course of action.
“Nothing has been planned for now ... I think we let His Highness to continue his treatment here,” she added.
The Ruler was treated for nine months at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore until returning to the east coast last March 4. His absence has seen a royal family squabble turn into a palace crisis, with his wife and third prince with him against other royal relatives.
