KP Samy Klang businessman and Party CEntral working committee sacked by Samy Vellu using presidential power.
In a sign of desperation, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today sacked two more critics from MIC in a bid to stem the tide of voracious criticism against his presidency which enters its 31st year.
Samy Vellu exerted his presidential powers to fire KP Samy, a Klang businessman, and G. Kumar Aman, a businessman from Kajang, from the party’s central working committee (CWC) days after they supported a call for the president to leave office by year’s end.
Samy, a long time supporter of Samy Vellu’s arch-rival Datuk S. Subramaniam, confirmed he received the expulsion letter today while Kumar, a first-term CWC member received his letter at around 7.15pm.
“I have just received the letter ... it refers to my support for Samy Vellu to step down by end of this year,” Samy told .
“This is another sign that MIC is moving closer to destruction and I leave it to the members to decide the next course of action,” he added, saying he will call for a press conference tomorrow.
When contacted, Kumar said, “I am waiting for the letter after I heard that I was sacked this morning.”
Both are the third and fourth members sacked since Samy Vellu announced he would retire “eight or nine” months before his term expires in May 2012 but critics want him to leave by the 64th MIC AGM on July 10 this year.
They fear if he stays longer he would rearrange the party, close branches and open new branches and promote his son Vell Paari, in the one year he is asking to remain in power.
Vell Paari has alluded to “political assassins” from Barisan Nasional’s (BN) dominant party Umno for supporting the move against his father.
By re-arranging MIC, Samy Vellu’s critics say, he would leave the party to his son and their cronies, to be the power behind the MIC throne.
The party president has also sacked V. Mugilan, the fiery MIC Youth deputy leader and V. Subramaniam or popularly known as Barat Maniam, the Petaling Jaya Selatan division chairman, for asking him to step down.
Mugilan especially had been vocal and has launched an anti-Samy Vellu movement called GAS last week.
The inaugural meeting will be held at 2pm at the PWTC on May 30 and all critics of Samy Vellu have been invited irrespective of race or religion or creed.
“Anybody who wants Samy Vellu out should attend,” Mugilan told The Malaysian Insider in an interview.
“May 30 is Judgement Day for Samy Vellu,” Mugilan said taking a phrase from the Terminator movie series.
“The sacking of four leaders and popular ones at that in as many weeks shows Samy is desperate to stem the wave of protest,” said a senior MIC leader who declined to be named.
“We are put in a bad situation,” he said adding “we have to evaluate” our position in the party vis-à-vis Samy Vellu.
“We are forced to choose between Samy Vellu and out honour,” said another MIC CWC member.
