Azamuddin Omar, the close friend of Aminulrasyid Amzah who was shot dead by police following a car chase, was called up -- for the third time -- by police today to have another statement recorded.

The 15-year-old schoolboy, who is the main witness to the shooting of Aminulrasyid, also 15, went to the Selangor police contingent headquarters here at 5.30pm, accompanied by lawyer N. Surendran. At press time, the session had yet to end.

Azamuddin had given a statement two days after the April 26 incident, but was called again on May 2 as the Attorney-General's Chamber wanted the police to gather more information.

Azamuddin had on Monday given his side of the story at a press conference arranged by lawyers, a move that was criticised by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan as unethical. However, the Bar Council today defended the lawyers' action, saying it did not breach the code of professional conduct.

The cabinet, which met today, expressed its sadness and condolence to the family of Aminulrasyid.

"The incident was most regretted," said a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, the owner of a car which Aminulrasyid's car had hit on the night he was killed lodged a police report late on Tuesday.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said the car owner, who is a businessman in his early 30s, had approached him and sought his advice prior to lodging the report.

He said the man had told him that he had lent his car to a friend who was using it on April 26.

He said the car owner related what his friend had told him about the minor accident which occurred between his car and the Proton Iswara Aminulrasyid was driving near a restaurant.

Several motorcyclists known to the friend then gave chase after seeing Aminulrasyid speed off from the scene.

During the chase, one of the motorcyclists was injured after Aminulrasyid accidentally crashed into him. The biker was taken to a hospital and given outpatient treatment before he lodged a police report on the same day.

"The car owner did not lodge a police report earlier when he found the damage to his car was very minor and he did not know it was Aminulrasyid who had grazed his car until he was contacted by police," Khalid said.

He said the police traced the ownership of the car from the police report lodged by the motorcyclist.

Aminulrasyid, who had sneaked out of his house and driven his sister's car to meet Azamuddin, died from a gunshot to his head fired by police during a high-speed car pursuit at 2am following the accident.
