Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said they will let him (Wei Jie) rest and spend some time with his family before asking him to return to Sabah to assist investigations into the abduction.

“Wei Jie is still very traumatised over the whole ordeal so we will let him rest and clear his mind before asking him to return here to give us information pertaining to the abduction,” he said.

Hamza said the body of the victim’s 33-year-old cousin, Chong Wei Fei, who was also abducted with him from their family birds’ nest structure by several gunmen in a plantation in Lahad Datu last November, was still not traceable.

“We are working with our attaché in the Philippines to try and get more information on whether is he really dead and where the body could be,” he explained.

Hamza said they are also gathering information on how and when Wei Fei died.

“When Wei Jie is ready to speak, we will call him back to find out who his abductors are, how many of them were involved and all necessary information on the incident,” he added.

Hamza said Wei Jie being the key witness to the abduction had to be protected, and thus no further information on his family could be revealed until the case is closed.
