Man shot dead at Penang's Anson Road traffic light
A man was executed gangland style after stopping at a traffic light at Anson Road here.
Police identified the deceased as K. Veerapan, 37, who was gunned down at point blank range by a pillion rider at around 11.50am on Thursday.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the deceased lived in Air Itam, Penang and has three previous convictions for cases involving narcotics.
The victim was driving a BMW car bore a Kuala Lumpur registration plate, although it is speculated that the car was borrowed from a friend.
ACP Gan said the assailant fired at least 14 times at Veerapan, with 10 bullets hitting him in the cheek, neck and right abdomen.

Police found 14 bullet casings at the scene. Two machetes wrapped in newspaper were found in the rear passenger seat of the BMW.
Penang Hospital pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh was also at the scene.
Asked whether the case could be one of mistaken identity or whether Veerapan was a former Emergency Ordinane (EO) detainee, ACP Gan said: "We are trying to determine his background. The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder."
Police will also determine if the case could be related to gang rivalry in the island.
Sources said that Veerapan had been a member of Gang 36.
