Turf war poser behind fatal shooting

S. Murugesan's family

IN GRIEF: Murugesan’s family members waiting outside the KLH mortuary yesterday

Could a territorial dispute be behind yesterday’s fatal shooting of a man in Kampung Laksamana, Batu Caves?

Police are looking at the possibility behind the incident that left S. Murugesan (pic), 40, riddled with 10 slugs in his body after an encounter with suspected gang members outside a block of low-cost flats about 3am, and his sister-in-law fighting for her life after being shot in the crossfire.

Murugesan had earlier gone to the apartment to fetch the sister-in-law, S. Krishani, also 40, said Gombak deputy police chief Supt Rosly Hassan.

“When Krishani entered the victim’s black Toyota Vios, a Proton Waja and a Mitsubishi Storm stopped beside them. That’s when they were ambushed by the five men.”

He said one of the men, believed to be armed with a semi-automatic pistol, opened fire from the driver’s side window, firing 11 shots before fleeing in the Proton Waja.

Rosly said Murugesan died on the spot with gunshot wounds to the head, chest, abdomen and hands while a single bullet pierced Krishani’s right ribs, leaving her in critical condition at Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s intensive care unit.

He said the attackers wore helmets to cover their faces and were spotted fleeing the scene in two cars.

“We believe they had been waiting for the victim to show up and ambush him.”
