Subang Ria Park stays recreational

The Selangor Appeals Board today upheld the Subang Jaya Municipal Council’s (MPSJ) decision to reject Subang Ria Park owner Sime Darby Property Berhad’s proposal to subdivide and convert a portion of the park from recreational to commercial and residential.

In delivering the decision, Appeals Board member Datin Teh Zawahir Abdul Malek said the board rejected the company’s appeal as the proposal did not comply with the zoning requirements of the 29.39ha park.

“The proposal for medical suites and residential development on 7.7ha of the total land area does not comply with the zoning of the land which is for recreational-related development,” she said.

“It is not defined under the types of development allowed on the land which includes bistros, waterfront cafes and artistic activities,” she added.

No costs were ordered to any party involved in the matter.

In previous hearings, Sime Darby Property’s legal counsel had contended that MPSJ had erred in its decision to reject the company’s proposal as MPSJ's Local Draft Plan was approved beforehand.

The MPSJ Local Draft Plan 2020 was approved on March 17 last year and gazetted in May 17 last year.

MPSJ had rejected the company’s proposal to build 250 units of residential apartments and a future development for the Subang Jaya Medical Centre on a portion of the park on May 4 last year.
