Man held over RM7m scam

Police have detained a man and are now looking for his parents for allegedly cheating several people of RM7 million.They were believed to have promised their victims non-existent tenders, supply contracts and government land.State police chief Datuk Shukri Dahlan said investigations into the scam began in April after the victims lodged police reports.




"Following a tip-off, police arrested a man, believed to be the couple's son, in Kuala Muda, Kedah, on June 14.

"During the raid, we found a bag containing cash amounting to about RM1 million, buried behind the house."

Shukri said the couple were believed to have started the scam in Teluk Intan by offering various tenders to supply goods to the Royal Malaysian Navy and contract work with the Drainage and Irrigation Department.


"They pretended to be successful entrepreneurs and impressed their victims by donating thousands of ringgit to temples and schools.

"They also treated their victims to expensive food and drinks."

Shukri said police were looking for Song Siew Weng, 49, and Chong Heoy Choo, 40, to assist in investigations into the case.


Song's last known address was 58, Persiaran Pengkalan Timur 11, Taman Desa Pakatan here, while Chong's was 39, Lorong Tupai Mas, Taiping.

Shukri urged those with information on the couple's whereabouts to contact the state police headquarters at 05-2451222, or the Hilir Perak district headquarters at 05-6299222.
