Girl’s mum appeals for help

The family of Fatin Farhana Mohd Zin, 20, always had high hopes for her but it all came crashing down after she met with an accident early this year.

The former Institut Yayasan Se-langor student is now bedridden and in a coma after the motorcycle she was riding pillion was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Jan 17 in Subang.

Her mother Che Noriah Mat, 53, said she had been told that Fatin, who was recently discharged from Sungai Buloh Hospital, had only a slim chance of recovery.

“She suffered from severe injuries to the head which caused bleeding in her ears, nose and brain. Part of her skull had to be removed to prevent blood-clotting.

“Her left thigh is now fitted with steel as the bone was badly crushed,” Noriah said during a visit by Klang MCA Youth chief Dr Ching Eu Boon to her home in Kampung Raja Uda on Friday.

She said Fatin's left leg could not be straightened and she would not be able to walk properly even if she were to recover.

“She can't eat solid food only milk and water which is given via a plastic tube,” said the single, unemployed mother.

Noriah, who has three other children, is now seeking public contributions to help take care of Fatin, who needs three cans of special formula milk costing about RM180 per day.

“So far, I am just relying on Fatin's elder brother to bear the costs of medication but I don't think it's enough as he is just an odd-job worker without a fixed salary.

“I have also applied for financial assistance from Lembaga Zakat,” said Noriah.

Dr Ching said the Klang MCA Youth would provide the family with a monthly contribution.

“We are looking at presenting Fatin with an adjustable bed as it would be easier for her mother to clean her,” said Dr Ching, adding that they are also looking for a less expensive and suitable milk for Fatin.

Kampung Raja Uda village chief Abu Bakar Bachok, who has known Fatin since she was a child, des-cribed her as a bright and helpful person who got along well with her friends and villagers.
