RM80,000 grab by robber with wig and toy gun
A LONE robber wearing a wig and brandishing a toy pistol took only five minutes to rob a bank of RM80,000 in Seri Kembangan on Friday afternoon.
Kajang police chief ACP Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said policeviewed the bank's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages but could not identify the robber.
"The wig covered the face of the robber, who apparently was alone," he said.
"However, we are gathering more details from the bank staff to get a better description of the robber, who was also wearing sunglasses."
Abdul Rashid refuted earlier reports the robber used firecrackers during the robbery.
"No fireworks were used. It was probably the sound made by the toy gun when the suspect fired two shots to frighten those inside the bank," he said.
"The robber, a big-sized man believed to be in his 20s, was well-attired in a long-sleeved dark shirt and pants and looked like a genuine customer."
The robber struck at the CIMB Bank branch inTaman Tanming Jaya at 3.50pm on Friday. There were only a few staff and customers at the time.
He jumped over the counter and ordered a female clerk to fill a bag with money. He took the clerk as hostage until they were outside the bank and fled on a motorcycle.
A restaurant worker who was in the bank during the robbery suspected that the pistol was fake when the robber fired two shots.
"The sound was not as loud as a real gunshot but I was too afraid to do anything,” he said.
