Killed after row with neighbour over wife

AN Indonesian construction worker was assaulted and slashed to death after he confronted a neighbour for flirting with his wife, says police of the incident last Friday at a kongsi at Taman Melati in Wangsa Maju.

Police are looking for the neighbour, in his mid-30s, and at least two other male suspects believed to be responsible for the murder of 30-year-old Yanto Sukor.

Sentul police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said Yanto was told by residents at their kongsi in Taman Melati, Wangsa Maju, that his wife, who is in her 20s, was often "disturbed" by his neighbour, also an Indonesian, whenever Yanto was not at home.

"On Friday, the neighbour coaxed Yanto's wife to go out with him. Residents at the kongsi advised the neighbour to stop but he would not listen. He only backed off when told Yanto would be back at the kongsi soon," said Zakaria.

When Yanto returned and learnt what had happened, he went to the neighbour's house to confront him. The neighbour denied making advances to Yanto's wife and both men got into an argument. It is learnt Yanto punched the neighbour in his face and warned him not to go near his wife again.

At 7.30 on Saturday morning, a resident found Yanto's bloodied body after he returned from a night out.

Police found eight slash wounds and multiple bruises and marks on Yanto's body.

Zakaria said police found a passport belonging to an Indonesian woman, believed to be Yanto's wife, near the body.

"Judging from the number of injuries on Yanto's body, we believe he was cornered and attacked by several assailants.

"We are looking for the neighbour and two other male suspects."

Police also sought the help of the K-9 dog unit to look for the suspects.

Yanto's body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
