Man held with RM500,000 drugs

The state Customs Department scored its biggest syabu bust with the arrest of a businessman last Friday.

The 31-year-old was nabbed with 2.1kg of drugs, valued at RM500,000, at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here at 9pm.

State Customs Department director Datuk Abdul Azizi Abdul Latiff said the suspect was on a bus en route to Johor Baru from Hat Yai when he was detained.

He added that the suspect was arrested when the department's scanning machine detected something not right inside his luggage.

"Ten packets, containing a white substance, believed to be syabu, were found taped inside the luggage," he said yesterday.

Azizi said the suspect, from Batam in Indonesia, had entered the country through Johor and flown to Thailand from Kuala Lumpur about week ago.
