GROs pretend to be customers at boutique but fail to escape raid

Three China nationals who worked illegally as guest relations officers (GRO) decided to masquerade as customers of a nearby designer boutique to escape the clutches of the police during a raid.

They got caught nonetheless as their sexy attire made them stand apart compared with the local customers at the boutique.

The three GROs were working at a luxurious karaoke outlet which is located at the sixth floor of an entertainment centre in Pulau Tikus.

When the raiding party arrived, the three fled during the commotion to the ground floor where the boutique was located.

The raiding party sensed something was not right when they passed by the shop later as they saw women in sexy outfits browsing through a rack of clothes with conservative designs.

Upon entering, they realised that the three girls were from the karaoke which was raided earlier.

They were eventually detained together with 30 other China nationals and one Vietnamese, all aged between 19 and 31 years old, for working without valid working permits.

The raid was conducted by a Bukit Aman anti-vice, gaming and secret societies unit around 10pm on Wednesday.

Its chief ASP Shahrul Nizam Jaafar said there was also an attempt by 11 GROs to escape through the back exit but they were foiled.

Eight Malaysians, who worked as cashiers and waiters in the outlet, were also brought to the George Town district police headquarters for questioning, he told journalists here.

This was the first time that the police had carried out a raid at the karaoke outlet.
