Police are looking for the distributor of an Omega watch, allegedly belonging to an Opposition leader, in a bid to ascertain its real owner.
The move is part of police's effort to nail down the identity of a man, caught on video having sex with an unknown woman in a hotel room.
The video made waves due to the man's resemblance to a top Opposition leader, Federal CID deputy director, Datuk Acryll Sani Abdullah Sani said police are seeking the background of the watch.
"We are still waiting for confirmation from the distributor who sold the watch, on whether the buyer was indeed the man featured in the video clip," he told a Press conference this morning.
The watch, he said, is still with the police for investigation.
"This is no ordinary watch. It is expensive so the distributor will have records of the sale," he said.
It is believed that that distributor of the watch is from Hong Kong.
"We are also trying to locate and identify the woman in the video," said Acryll Sani.
On the development of the sex video clip investigation, the Attorney-General (AG) has sent the investigation paper back to police for further updates.
It was initially submitted to the AG on Friday.
Police have so far questioned 35 people, including ex-Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Rahim Tamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuaib Lazim, or collectively known as 'Datuk T', who have admitted that they were behind the screening of the video to the media on March 21.
Rahim had told the media that he had handed over the original copy of the recording and an Omega watch allegedly belonging to Parti Keadilan Rakyat leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which the former claimed had been recovered from the hotel room where the video was allegedly shot.
Anwar lodged a report on March 22 denying that he was the man in the video. He has maintained that the Omega watch was in his wife's care.
