Resort to citizen arrest if IGP fails, says Karpal

DAP chairman Karpal Singh said today that if Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar fails to arrest “Datuk T” over the sex video purportedly showing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim then the public should resort to citizen arrests.

Last month, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik admitted that businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, Perkasa’s Datuk Shuib Lazim and himself were collectively the mysterious “Datuk T” behind the sex video screening.

The former Malacca chief minister also admitted that both he and Shazryl were behind the video.

Karpal questioned why the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the IGP has failed to do anything when the trio have committed offense under the Film Censorship Act and criminal defamation under the penal code.

“All of these offenses have been committed in public but nothing has been done to these three. What has to be done forthright is to have the Datuk trio arrested. If the IGP does not do that then there is a law which allow for a citizen arrest,” he said.

He said that the public can apprehend any of the three and surrender them to the police.

“Law should take its course, it is there to be implemented and not defied and these three has defied it. I think it is scandalous,” he said.

He also urged the media to stop prosecuting the family over the video.

“This is gutter journalism and politics by Umno and Barisan Nasional,” he said.

On Friday, IGP said that the sex video was not doctored but declined to reveal the identity of the man in the video that was claimed to be Anwar having sex with a Chinese prostitute.
