A passenger was killed while six others were seriously injured when their bus was involved in an accident with two lorries at Km341.9 North South Expressway early today.
Tapah district police chief Supt Roslan Bek Ahmad said the 4:50am accident near Bidor killed Sahad@Shariff Md Din, 74, of Tanjung Tokong, Penang.
"Sahad who suffered serious head injury died at the scene and was then sent to Tapah Hospital for an autopsy," he told reporters today.
Passengers with serious injury were sent to Tapah Hospital, Teluk Intan Hospital and Ipoh Hospital for treatment.
The 35 passengers and bus driver were given out-patient treatment at Tapah Hospital and continued the journey with another bus.
The chartered bus was travelling from from Penang to Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
Roslan said the accident occurred when the bus with 43 passengers crashed into the rear of a lorry while climbing a slope.
"When the bus stopped to allow passengers to alight, a container lorry crashed into its rear, killing Sahad in the process."
He said the crash crushed the front and rear of the bus and trapped three passengers inside.
Firemen from Bidor station took one hour to remove the trapped passengers before sending them to hospital.
