Uncertainty looms over Sarawak Cabinet positions

Reeling from the recent setback from the just-concluded Sarawak election, the state swore in its ministers but the second Deputy Chief Minister was not named.

Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh was the only SUPP incumbent appointed to the state Cabinet yesterday.

The SUPP leadership also held an emergency meeting and its leaders appeared divided on Wong's appointment, as some of them wanted the party out of the government.

Several party leaders also hinted its elected bumiputra representative will be included in the Cabinet.

Other developments:

> MCA continues with its call to SUPP not to accept any state Cabinet post following its rejection by the Chinese community in the polls;

> Urban Chinese who shunned Barisan in the Sarawak election will be the ultimate losers as the state is too ethnically diversified for the Opposition to form the state government, says Umno Youth exco Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir; and

> Any attempt to punish Chinese voters for not favouring Barisan in the election will be inconsistent with the 1Malaysia concept, says DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
