Sarawak Deputy CM loses seat


In a shocking upset, Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) chief Tan Sri Dr George Chan has lost his N63 Piasau seat in the 10th Sarawak state election.

The deputy chief minister lost to giant killer Alan Ling Sie Kiong of the DAP by 1,590 votes to go down as the most high-profile casualty in this closely fought polls.

Chan, 75, managed only 4,408 votes in the Chinese majority seat, which he won in 2006 by 3,918 votes.

He had only recently named four candidates as potential successors to him within the party, namely Datuk Seri Peter Chin, Datuk David Teng, Datuk Lee Kim Shin and maybe Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh,” he was reported to have said.
