Anti-Taib radio station Radio Free Sarawak (RFS) said today that its signal has been jammed just before the state goes to the polls tomorrow.
“We can confirm that the first jamming transmission happened yesterday with a test the day before, all on 15425kHz which is right up next to our station’s 15420 kHz and against all international protocols,” said Clare Rewcastle Brown, who operates the station from London.
The sister-in-law of former British prime minister Gordon Brown said that the station’s experts have traced the attack to “a known agent in Belgium, who has admitted that he has been hired to broadcast at the same time and in the same frequency as our station.”
This comes after Rewcastle Brown’s website Sarawak Report was also brought down over the weekend and other news portals like Malaysiakini and Harakahdaily also reporting attacks on their sites.
Both RFS and Sarawak Report have in the months leading up to tomorrow’s state election accused Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud of widespread corruption during his 30-year administration.
Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to hold on to government despite the opposition looking to make gains in the 71-seat assembly.
