Probe on Ahmad Sarbani's death in final stages

Police are awaiting the pathology and chemistry reports before wrapping up the investigation into the death of Selangor Customs assistant director Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Jalan Cochrane on April 6.

Disclosing that the probe was in its final stages, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the investigations papers would be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers soon.

"We expect to receive the chemistry report on Monday while the pathologist's report based on the re-enactment at the MACC office two days ago is also expected sometime next week," he told reporters after attending a religious ceremony here today.

He was alluding to the re-enactment to retrace the last moments of Ahmad Sarbani, 56, who was found dead on the badminton court on the first floor of the MACC building.

Police have to date recorded statements from 42 people, including his family members, MACC officers and Customs Department personnel.

On the re-enactment, Ku said it was part of the investigation to visualise what had happened.

Ahmad Sarbani was among 62 Customs officers detained on April 1 during a nationwide probe by MACC over allegations of graft involving billions of ringgit. He was later released on bail.

It was reported that he had gone to the MACC office in Jalan Cochrane to meet with MACC staff.
