PAS wiped out in Sarawak

PAS has conceded defeat in all five seats that it contested in today’s Sarawak state election.

“Even though PAS has lost in all the seats it contested, PAS Youth will continue fighting its cause in the land of the hornbills,” said PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hasan at-Tantawi.

PAS stood in Tanjung Datu, Muara Tuang, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau dan Beting Maro.

Unofficial results from the 10th state election showed that PAS only came within touching distance of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Beting Maro seat, where it polled 2,758 votes to BN’s 3,014.

The candidate Abang Amad Kerdee Ahmad Masagus said he was satisfied with his achievement as the Chinese and Iban community had given their full support.

This leaves DAP and PKR to lead Pakatan Rakyat hopes to deny BN two-thirds of the state assembly.

However, sources from the ruling coalition say that it will have 51 assemblymen in the 71-seat legislative.
