Couple in sex video identified

Police have identified the couple in the sex video which allegedly featured an opposition leader.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said they had recorded statements from the couple but declined to reveal their identities.

"They were identified based on facts, evidence and reports from experts," Ismail said here yesterday.

"We will not reveal who they are as procedures have to be followed.

"The case will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers."

He said the task force formed to investigate the 22-minute video clip had also identified those who allegedly produced the sex video.

Ismail said experts had confirmed that the sex video was not doctored but police had sent the recording to foreign experts for a second opinion.

The "Datuk T" trio, who showed the sex video to selected members of the media, had been arrested for distribution of pornography. They were released after their statements were recorded.

They were former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim.

Police had also obtained the recording and an Omega wristwatch, which allegedly belonged to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Shazryl Eskay, who gave the watch to police, claimed that he found it after Anwar asked him to go back to the room where the sex act took place to look for it.

The businessman said it was then that he found the hidden cameras and video recording.

Anwar had denied that he was the man in the video and had lodged a report to clear his name.

He said his Omega watch was still in his possession and he would give it to police if they asked for it.

Police said they had checked with the watch supplier and were waiting for the information on the certificate issued for the watch.
