1Malaysia logo ban irks business community
THE Selangor government’s decision to ban the 1Malaysia logo from billboards and signboards has not gone down well with the business community in the state.
The business people deemed the 1Malaysia concept as one that will spur Malaysians to move ahead as a united people and believed that the concept has nothing to do with politics.
They also believed that the 1Malaysia concept of government, which was introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to allow all Malaysians, irrespective of ethnicity, to share the country’s resources and riches, should be supported.
According to a report in Nanyang Siang Pau on Saturday, it was found that the 1Malaysia logo was widely used by businesses on their billboards and signboards in Shah Alam and Klang.
Most businesses polled by the daily said they used the 1Malaysia logo on their signboards and billboards merely because "it (the logo) is hip", and believed the action of the state government would come at a cost to the people.
Some businessmen lambasted the ban as redundant, saying the 1Malaysia logo would not harm anyone but would instead unite the people.
They urged the state government to rescind the decision.
On Wednesday, state executive council member in charge of local government Ronnie Liu said Selangor would disallow symbols and logos related to the 1Malaysia concept from being used in billboards.
