1Malaysia ban: S'gor exco to meet Wed
An aide to Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today confirmed that the state executive councillors will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss on the ban on using the 1Malaysia logo in advertisements.
The ban, which was proposed by the state exco for housing and local council Ronnie Liu last week, was "frozen" on Monday, following intense criticism from both sides of the political divide, as well as from affected stakeholders.
Liu reportedly said the ban was imposed following a state exco ruling which declared the 1Malaysia logo as being "political" in nature, but Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, whose brainchild it is, denied this.
Abdul Khalid's media officer Tuan Nazuri Tuan Ismail earlier met with about 50 members of Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party who gathered at the state secretariat to submit a 13-point memorandum of protest against the ban.
The memorandum was signed by party president R.S. Thanenthiran.
Among the demands listed include for the ban to be lifted, and for the state to acknowledge the 1Malaysia symbol as a "unifying factor" for all Malaysians; instead of viewing it from a political perspective.
What initially started as a peaceful assembly however turned ugly when the group was denied entry into the state secretariat.
Tuan Nazuri who was sent to negotiate with the group, finally allowed five representatives to enter the secretariat.
However, party secretary-general S. Sutager said he was disappointed, saying the mentri besar or Liu should have accepted the memorandum.
The group finally dispersed at about 1pm, after about two hours, and Thanenthiran voiced his disappointment over their failure to submit the memorandum.
"We will not quit until they permanently retract the ban on using the 1Malaysia logo," said Thanenthiran in his final address outside the state secretariat.
