Cops say no CBT in NFC discovered so far
Police investigations have not revealed any element of criminal breach of trust so far in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) managed by the family of Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Perak DAP secretary and Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming has apologised for calling Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir “metallic black” and causing an outrage among the Indian community.
In a statement, Nga said: “To all who feel offended by my remarks, I wish to say sorry and apologise to them, including Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir."
However, he still defended his stance saying his statement was taken out of context since it referred to the Barisan Nasional’s Perak political takeover in 2009. He said it was an illegal power grab which was not endorsed by the will of the voters.
SIA suspends flights to London
Singapore Airlines (SIA) today suspended two flights inbound and outbound London as the the United Kingdom's public sector employees are planning strike action.
In a news flash on its website, the airline said its flight SQ308 (Singapore-London) and SQ319 (London-Singapore) have been cancelled.
SIA will contact the affected passengers for alternative travel arrangements.
"At this point, we expect to operate all other flights between Singapore and UK as scheduled," SIA said.
However, it said, the situation was fluid and "we seek our customers' understanding and offer our apologies in advance should there be further flight disruptions."
SIA said UK public sector employees' unions are planning strike action today. -

Police detain nine after protest
Nine demonstrators were arrested at Komtar here yesterday after they staged a protest against the state government.
They were among 300 people, from Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), Suara Anak-Anak Malaysia and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Mulia, who marched to Komtar at noon, to hand a memorandum to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
The hour-long protest caused massive traffic snarls at roads surrounding Komtar.
The demonstrators, some on foot and others on motorcycles, began their march in Jalan Penang at noon.
They bore placards bearing anti-Ng Wei Aik slogans as a sign of protest against the Komtar assemblyman, and gathering outside Komtar, the state's administrative centre, to voice their discontent.
Malaysia’s corruption score falls again
Malaysia’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score has worsened for the third year running, slipping to 4.3 this year from 4.4 in 2010, according to a Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) report.
Malaysia’s country ranking also fell to 60 out of 183 countries from 56 out of 178 last year.
It remained the third-least corrupt nation in Asean after Singapore (9.2) and Brunei (5.2), with Thailand (3.4) and Indonesia (3.0) following in fourth and fifth places respectively.
Singapore also placed fifth in the overall country rankings and was the highest-ranked Asian nation this year.
“Singapore is way ahead and I would like to point out that Indonesia is improving very fast and may overtake us because Indonesia has shown some will,” said TI-M secretary-general Josie Fernandez (picture).

Explain ban on gathering at houses of worship, Abim tells PM
The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) today urged Datuk Seri Najib Razak to explain his rationale behind banning peaceful assemblies at houses of worship under his administration’s newly proposed law.
Voicing its disapproval of the Peaceful Assembly Bill, scheduled to be debated in Parliament on Tuesday, the Muslim group said the prime minister must explain the clause in order to avoid any futures misunderstandings.
Under the proposed Bill, houses of worship and other premises, such as schools and petrol stations, have been classified as prohibited zones. Those found participating in a rally within a 50m-radius of these premises would be liable to fines of up to RM10,000.
“Abim views such provisions as contrary to Article 10 of the Federal Constitution which guarantees citizens the right to assemble,” Abim president Abdul Manan said today.

Restaurant blast at Maju Junction - Gas leak in kitchen believed to have caused explosion on Saturday night
AN explosion at Maju Junction Mall damaged a restaurant and an adjoining outlet on Saturday night.
No one was injured in the 11pm explosion, which occurred after the mall had closed.
The explosion at Noodle Station restaurant on the ground floor of the mall, which is in Jalan Sultan Ismail, was believed to have been caused by a gas leak.
This is the second time a gas leak and explosion had caused damage to a food outlet in a mall.
On Sept 28, a gas explosion destroyed a restaurant at Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya, injuring four people.
City Fire Department assistant director Azizan Ismail said a gas leak in the restaurant's kitchen probably caused the blast.
Chua: Make Mandarin a compulsory exam subject
The MCA will push for Mandarin to be made a compulsory Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) paper for students in Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK).
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said making the subject compulsory was important because there should be a minimum level of language proficiency for those wishing to teach in Chinese schools.
He added that the boards of SMJK nationwide were unanimous in their decision to request that the language be made a compulsory subject.
Dr Chua, however, said there would be a shortage of Mandarin teachers to teach the subject.
The party has directed its Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, who is also Deputy Education Minister, to look into the matter.

Heng said the budget taxi service, which only covered the Klang Valley at present, was the ministry's pilot project to see the effectiveness of having such a service.
The ministry will gather feedback for a year before implementing the scheme in other states.
"It is one of our plans to have such a service nationwide. But we have to look at the feedback first to determine any weakness and improve on it before doing so."

MTUC threatens ‘war’ if labour law changed

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) said today it will “declare war” on Barisan Nasional (BN) if amendments to the Employment Act are passed by Dewan Negara on December 12.
Financial secretary Alias Awang Ibrahim said the umbrella body of 390 labour unions representing 802,323 members, will then offer its support to any political party that pledges to repeal the changes that officially recognise third-party labour providers.
“If it is passed in Dewan Negara on December 12, then MTUC will declare war on them. There is no room for compromise,” he told PKR delegates at the party’s national congress here.
Dewan Rakyat has already passed the contentious amendments to the law on October 6, which MTUC claimed would “bring back slavery” and erode protection for workers as employers will no longer be directly responsible for the welfare of their employees.

SEX scenes in local movies are usually very tame, just enough to create a little controversy and boost ticket sales.

MCA says Malay PM guarantee unnecessary
MCA leaders have rejected PKR Youth’s suggestion to amend the Constitution and guarantee a Malay prime minister, saying the post would stay with the country’s largest ethnic community.
MCA vice-president Datuk Chor Chee Heung even declared his party was not interested in the position as it was “convention” for a Malay to be appointed prime minister in Malaysia.
“Since independence, BN (Barisan Nasional) has been in control of the government and all this while, not withstanding the Constitution, the prime minister must be from Umno or a Malay... it is the convention.
“MCA is not even interested to ask for its representative to be the prime minister,” Chor said.
The Cabinet minister also said that it was a natural selection as the Malays make up the majority race in the country.

Tony Pua says Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin can sue if he is unhappy over remarks by the DAP publicity chief concerning allegedly substandard Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia goods, The Malay Mail reported today.
“Sue me if you are not happy with my statements or claims. Take me to court if you have to,” the Petaling Jaya Utara MP told the daily.
Kedai Rakyat is a chain of government-backed thrift shops run by local hypermarket operator Mydin Mohamad Holdings Bhd, which is headed by Ameer.

PKR claims NFC funded umrah packages, Singapore firms
Funds meant for the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) were used to fund umrah packages and set up two Singapore-based companies, both owned by Senator Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s family, PKR alleged today.
In their latest round of exposes on the scandal-tainted federally-funded cattle project, PKR leaders claimed to have proof that NFC executive chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail, Shahrizat’s husband, had ordered payment of RM31,580 to be made for his and his son Wan Shahinur Izran Mohamad Salleh’s haj pilgrimage in 2010.
“PKR has clear proof that orders for the umrah package to be paid using this public fund had come from the NFC executive chairman’s office,” PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution (picture) said today.

Shahrizat not directly involved in NFC, says DPM
The call made by Barisan Nasional (BN) backbenchers' deputy chief Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, the BN's Kinabatangan Member of Parliament, for Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to resign is unwarranted and uncalled for.
At a Press conference here yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar had already given a lengthy and comprehensive explanation following the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd's (NFC) fiasco as revealed by the Auditor-General’s 2010 Report recently.
“Shahrizat is not directly involved in NFC because this is the company’s operational matter managed by her family. Whether Bung's comment is called for, it is up to him to figure it out himself," said Muhyiddin, also Education Minister, in coming to Shahrizat's defence.

Smuggling of drugs amplified

WHEN a courier agent came to the Royal Customs Department Complex at KL International Airport (KLIA) last Saturday at 10pm to pick up three mid-size consignments, there wasn't a reason for the authorities to doubt anything.
Except, for the fact the man came in a Perodua Viva and not a lorry -- the common transport of choice for cargo pick-ups.
Suspicion further heightened when Customs officers found the packages, declared as megaphones on the consignment documents, to be heavier than what the cone-shaped horn used to amplify voices or sounds, should be.
The officers asked the agent to open one of the boxes. Inside was an amplifier.
Suspecting something amiss, Customs opened the amplifier to find five packets of syabu stashed inside its components.

THE floor mats stuffed inside his backpack did not raise suspicion. But his movements about the KL International Airport (KLIA) did.
On Monday at 7.42am, KLIA Customs officers saw an Indian national suspiciously roaming about the airport's Passenger Terminal 1 Complex with a backpack. The man had just arrived from Delhi on a transit flight from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur.
KLIA Customs director, Datuk M. Govinden, said when officers screened the bag, they only saw three floor mats and clothes inside it.
"He was casually dressed and from his style, we thought he was on a day-visit to Malaysia."
The man, 34, began acting up when officers sought to open and check his bag.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar has urged Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz to divulge what transpired during past Cabinet discussions on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project.
He said Nazri's statement many ministers opposed the project but later agreed to it for fear of it turning into "a big issue", was unacceptable.
"What does Nazri mean by they had to agree to the project in the end, despite having many ministers opposing it because they are afraid of it becoming a bigger issue? What is this 'bigger issue'?
"Nazri needs to give an explanation to the rakyat about what happened during the meeting and what the opinions of the other ministers were.
"The rakyat need to know because Nazri was among the Cabinet members present when (the Then Transport Minister) Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik proposed the PKFZ project," said the Pokok Sena MP at a Press conference at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
UEM, EPF to waive Plus Expressway's RM2.6 bil compensation
UEM Group Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) have agreed to waive Plus Expressways Bhd's current outstanding compensation balance totalling RM2.9 billion from the government.
In a statement today, UEM said there will also be no compensation for the toll rate freeze until 2015 which will otherwise cost the government RM3.6 billion.
EPF and UEM Group have concluded the negotiation with the government on the proposed acquisition of assets and liabilities of PLUS Expressways and Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd.
