Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh appointed as the first mentor under 1Malaysia For Youth programme
International film actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has been appointed as the first mentor under the 1Malaysia For Youth (1M4U) programme.
Among the first order of the day for Yeoh would be to raise awareness on crime prevention, road safety and promoting the country's beautiful eco-system.
Yeoh received the letter of appointment from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Prime Minister's Office here Tuesday.
Najib is also the chairman of the 1M4U board of trustees.
"I was very distraught when I heard about women, particularly, who were traumatised in carparks and by snatch thieves.
"We will (draw up a) campaign to make Malaysia safer and once we have the campaign in place, we will announce it," the Ipoh-born lass said.

She’s Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh now

International film actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh is among prominent personalities who will receive one of the highest honours awarded in conjunction with the birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah today.
Yeoh, who is the Malaysia brand ambassador, will receive the Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) which carries the title “Tan Sri”.
She is among 22 other personalities who will receive the award under the private sector, associations, voluntary and sports category.
Also receiving the award under the same category is economist Datuk Seri Syed Abdul Jabbar Syed Hassan and Datuk Seri Dr M.P. Ramasamy, who is group managing director of major developer IRDKLand Group.
Dr Ramasamy has been credited for being the driving force behind more than RM1bil worth of developments in the Klang Valley while Syed Abdul Jabbar chairs several companies, including Tradewinds (M) Bhd, MMC Corporation Bhd, MARDEC Bhd and Padiberas Nasional Bhd.

Michelle Yeoh and Zang Toi set to receive honours
Celebrated actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh and fashion icon Zang Toi are both said to be on the list of honours to be awarded by the King on his birthday.
Yeoh is on the list of people to be awarded the title of Tan Sri this Saturday, June 1.
According to a family member, Hong Kong-based Yeoh is busy working in Paris, but will be returning to Malaysia on Thursday, May 30 to prepare for the ceremony.
Michelle's fianc Jean Todt could also be attending the occasion.
Yeoh, 49 was born in Ipoh, Perak on Aug 6, 1963.
An actress of repute, she made her name as an action star in the Hong Kong film industry, and shot to international fame for her role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Selangor residential lease holders will have titles automatically renewed: PM
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced additions to Selangor Barisan Nasional's election manifesto in which all residential lease holders in the state will have their lease titles automatically renewed upon its expiry.
He also said there will be discounted premium for lease hold extension for low and medium cost houses.
Najib made the announcement during a record breaking mammoth dinner with 60,000 people at an open space at Westport in Port Klang tonight.

GE13: Cyber bullies target Michelle Yeoh for accepting invitation to attend mammoth dinner
International actress Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh is the target of fierce attacks in cyberspace after reports emerged that the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star has accepted an invitation to attend a mammoth dinner organised by a group of Selangor Chinese businessmen.
Netizens took to social networking sites to criticise Michelle after an unofficial Facebook page in Chinese “We Fully Support PKR ” highlighted a local Chinese daily report about the event, which would also be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
The page, which was set up in 2010 and has over 300,000 “Likes”, posted a message on April 12 addressed to Michelle, which said: “You were once Malaysian people's pride but now no longer.”
