RM200 rebate for energy-efficient electrical appliances
Malaysians, who purchase electrical appliances that have five-star rating in their energy efficiency use after July, can expect rebates of up to RM200.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Peter Chin said the rebates were part of Sustainability Achieved Via Energy Efficiency (SAVE) programme to be launched on July 7.
For a start, he said the rebates would be for refrigerators and freezers for the domestic sector and chillers for businesses.
“The rebates would be given at the point of sale and the retailers would then claim the amount from the Government,” he said after launching an energy efficiency forum here on Thursday.

Govt not forcing consumers to pay bills
THE government has never intended to force anyone to pay any utility bill, including that for Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Noriah Kasnon said.

Replying to a question from Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP-Beruas) in the Dewan Rakyat today, she said the responsibility to settle the bills is actually stated in the agreement between the consumers and the service providers.
“If the consumers do not settle their bills, the providers can demand payment using the procedures stated in the law. In this respect (IWK), it is the Water Services Industry Act," she said.
