Burglars take RM1.5m in valuables, defecate in house

A businessman's Hari Raya celebration ended on a sour note when he returned home to find his house in Bandar Sungai Long broken into by burglars, who carted away RM1.5 million worth of valuables.

However, what irked Abdul Salam Ahmad, 49, the most was that the burglars finished the Raya cookies and defecated in the house.

The family had been away in Sungai Petani for a week and discovered the burglary only when they returned on Sunday night.

Salam found the house in a mess when the family returned at 9.30pm.

"They left the house in a total mess. They ransacked every room.

"Even our 100kg safe proved to be no hindrance for them, as they prised it open," he said yesterday.

KK Super Mart armed to defend after 11 robberies by same group




Stunned by a series of 11 brazen attacks on KK Super Marts, founder and CEO Datuk Dr Douglas K.K. Chai has beefed up security at his outlets.

“We have hired a security team to go around our stores and we have increased the number of people in our response team,” he said.

“We have 20 people in our response team, with four of them being armed with pistols.”

This follows a number of attacks by a group of five men armed with machetes who robbed KK Super Mart, a 24-hour mini-supermarket chain, 11 times in 10 days.

He said KK Super Mart was working closely with the police force to catch the robbers.

It would increase the number of CCTV in it’s stores, he said.

“Up to 16 cameras have been installed with several of them focusing on the entrance of the store,” he said.

Thiefs steal 3 cows using wira.





After knocking out three cows using tranquillisers, three men shoved the animals into a Proton Wira in Sungai Lembu here in their grand theft plan.

The thieves, in their 20s, had used a blowpipe to sedate the animals, which were fenced up in an oil palm estate, at about 1am on Friday.

A witness, who declined to be identified, said he saw the thieves struggling to put the unconscious cows into the car which was without the backseat.

He quickly alerted the voluntary patrol unit in the area.

Hijacked patrol car found 12 hours later, weapon recovered

A police patrol car which was hijacked by a suspected snatch thief in Kamunting, North Perak earlier today, was found in Juru here about 12 hours later.

The patrol car was found abandoned in Taman Seri Mangga here about 9pm, together with the police-issued MP5 sub-machinegun and its four magazines.

The 32-year-old suspect, identified as Muhamad Hafiz Saidin from Pokok Tampang, Tasek Gelugor in Seberang Perai Utara had gone missing.

A passer-by who spotted the patrol car alerted the local volunteer patrol team who immediately contacted the police.

Policemen from the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters and the forensic team rushed to the scene to cordon the area and scoured for evidence.

Suspect escapes in police car



A 32-year-old suspect lunged forward from the back seat of a patrol car, pushed out a policeman who was about to start the engine and made a daring escape.

He sped off in the patrol car from Kamunting, Taiping, and was believed have headed north.

A manhunt is on to track down the suspect.

The brazen escape took place in Kampung Pak Dollah at 7.45am yesterday, minutes after policemen had put the man in the back seat.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Yusof Diah said villagers spotted the “suspicious man” sleeping inside a lorry at about 7.30am.

“The villagers caught him and called the police. A patrol car with two personnel rushed to the scene to investigate.

Tan Sri has no regrets shooting parang-wielding man who attacked him



The gutsy Tan Sri who gunned down a parang-wielding robber said he had no regrets shooting the man as he tried to attack him twice.

Pahang Chinese Chamber of Commerce chairman Tan Sri Lam Kam Sang was having a medical check up at a Cheras polyclinic in Cheras when three men armed with parang burst in and demanded cash and valuables from the staff and patients.

“I have no regrets shooting dead the robber. He was very aggressive and threatened my life.

“I pumped three shots into him after he tried to slash me a second time. If I had not had my gun, it could have been me who would be dead," Lam said when contacted by The Star on Friday.

City Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah says the suspects gained access to the premise through the front door which was unlocked.



Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has become the latest victim of robbers when his home was hit on Saturday afternoon.

A minister's house was broken into by four men in Bukit Damansara, here, yesterday.

In the 5pm incident, the suspects were believed to have entered the house by climbing up the side fence.

"At the time of the incident, the minister's maid was in the kitchen and the rest of the family was out.

Woman hurt in snatch theft bid




A snatch thief failed to get a contractor's handbag but his attempt caused her to fall, hit her head and injure her right eye.

Goh Ai Hon (pic), 50, stepped out from the bank with her 11-year-old son and a friend, Wilson Lim, when the crime happened at about 3pm on June 19 in front of a bank in Rahman Putra, Sungai Buloh here, China Press reported.

The robber, revving up on a motorbike, had tried to snatch Goh's handbag but failed. In the commotion, Goh fell, hit her head and injured her right eye.

Cops to step up checks on m-cyclists



Police have stepped up checks on motorcyclists following the spate of robbery cases involving motorcycles here over the past week.

Johor Baru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainuddin Yaacob said police nabbed three suspects who used motorcycles in two separate robberies.

In the first case on June 18, a 53-year-old businessman was inside his car at a petrol station in Jalan Sri Purnama, Majidee, here, when two men riding a Honda Wave knocked on his car window about 1am.

The men identified themselves as policemen. When the victim opened the door of his car, one of the suspects placed a knife against his neck and ordered him to hand over his cash and belongings.

The victim, who suffered cuts, handed over RM1,400 to the robbers.

At this juncture, a police patrol team came by. Upon spotting the police, the duo panicked and fled.

Two college students among five arrested for mass robbery



Police have arrested five individuals, including two private college students, who were involved in a mass robbery at a restaurant in Tanjung Malim last Thursday.

Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the suspects, aged between 17 and 23, were arrested in Kuala Kubu Baru, near Serendah in Selangor several minutes later after they robbed 15 people at an eatery in Taman Universiti, Tanjung Malim at about 1.30pm.

"They were armed with three parangs and had robbed the patrons at the eatery of their personal belongings, mainly money and mobile phones.

"We were able to make the arrests swiftly as we managed to get early information from the victims," he said on Wednesday.

"We also found out that their getaway car was reportedly stolen in Seremban," he added.

Now, police to patrol ATM spots every hour, day and night, all over Malaysia





The police will conduct hourly patrols round-the-clock nationwide to prevent break-ins at automated teller machines.

National Key Results Area chairman Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob said motorbike and car patrol units will carry out the patrols and report to the district control rooms hourly from now.

Speaking at the launch of Ops Tawan Bukit Aman at the KLCC shopping mall, he said the patrol units would be fully accountable for any robberies or break-ins during their shifts.

Ayub also said the proposal for separate pedestrian and motorbike lanes as an initiative to reduce street crime was still under discussion.

"We have received Kuala Lumpur City Hall's response on the matter. But the proposal has to be studied further, including its impact on society," he said.

According to Ayub, based on statistics, crimes involving motorbikes made up 50 percent of the national crime index and the proposal was seen as a method to reduce the rate.

"For example, motorbike thefts are a major component of the national crime index and if we zoned them to certain areas maybe such crimes can be controlled," he said.

MIC: Take action on mat rempits who attacked Pathmaraj


It was reported that Pathmaraj was attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning along Jalan Raja Di Hilir, leaving him with serious injuries to the head.


MIC has urged the relevant authorities to take swift and decisive actions following a brutal attack on a man by a group of mat rempits in Simpang Pulai two days ago.

B. Pathmaraj, 28, is currently in coma at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.

The technician is currently placed on life-support machines.

MIC Youth secretary C. Sivarraajh said the incident was a serious matter.

"This is not the first time such an incident had happened, and it should not be taken lightly.

"Due to the seriousness of the situation, I have personally been in contact with the police, which are in the early stages of the investigation," he said.

"We hope there will be no delays or obstacles to the process of due justice.

2 held over robbery at PKR’s sec-gen’s house



Police detained two men in connection with a robbery at the house of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution in Kampung Air Hijau here last Thursday.

Machang district police chief DSP Che Malek Bedot said the suspects, aged 23 and 22, were arrested at their respective houses in Kampung Gosong here at 1.05am yesterday.

He said the two men would be remanded for three days from today to assist investigation.

Several items, including laptops, watch, handphones and foreign currency notes, were found when police raided their houses.

Tourist attacked by robbers

A German tourist, who had just arrived here from Singapore, was assaulted by two men who tried to rob him yesterday morning.

Michael Peter Hem, 28, suffered cuts to his hands and legs, and fractured his right arm in the 12.30am incident which occurred near a budget hotel at the Ipoh old town area.

He lodged a report at the police beat base at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital at 4pm after receiving treatment at the hospital.

When met by reporters, Hem declined to be interviewed, but allowed himself to be photographed.

He was later brought by policemen to the Ipoh district police headquarters to have his statement recorded.

Armed robbers grab RM200,000 from businessman



Armed with a parang, three men fled with RM200,000, after robbing a businessman in front of a bank in Ayer Tawar here today.
In the 3.15pm incident, the suspects who came in an Audi, intercepted the victim's four-wheel drive before pointing the parang at him.

Although the victim was armed with a pistol, the suspects managed to flee with the money, which was placed at the back passenger seat of the vehicle.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jaafar Baba said the 48-year-old victim fired three shots -- two towards the getaway car and one towards the suspects -- but to no avail.

"The suspects, all spotting baseball caps, drove away towards Ipoh," he said when met at the scene.

Robbers make off with RM200,000

Robbers escaped with more than RM200,000 after breaking open an automated teller machine (ATM) of a bank here early yesterday.

Deputy state police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the suspects, believed to be in their 30s, had used an oxy-acetylene gas welding procedure to break open the ATM and escape with all the money in it.

"Police were alerted about the robbery by a member of the public about 8.30am. A forensics team from the Pasir Mas police station was sent to the scene to investigate."

Mazlan said footage from closed-circuit television cameras installed at the premises was being examined.

He called on those with information to contact the nearest police station to facilitate in the investigation.

Quick action leads to robbers' arrest

Quick action by police resulted in the arrest of a robber five minutes after a gang of four robbed a jewellery store in Lukut here yesterday.

Another robber was arrested 20 minutes after the first arrest and part of the loot recovered.

Port Dickson police chief Superintendent Abd Wahab Harun said in the 9.30am incident, the jewellery store owner and three of his workers were opening the shop.

"Four men wearing full-face helmets appeared. One of them took out a gun and fired a warning shot into the air.

"Another took out a sledgehammer and broke several glass displays as their accomplices emptied several trays of jewellery into two black bags."

Wahab said the gang fled on two motorcycles and headed towards nearby Kampung Sri Parit.

An elderly businessman required nine stitches to his upper lip after being punched by a robber in the car park of the 1 Utama shopping centre here on Monday.

The incident occurred about 10pm when the 69-year-old victim, who owns a branded sports-apparel outlet in the complex, was walking towards his car with his wife at the lower ground level indoor car park.

A wireless panic button has been installed at the car park of a popular shopping mall as a measure to combat crime and protect car park users.

Hostage drama at gems shop




Three armed robbers held a woman hostage before escaping with jewellery worth RM3mil in a daring heist which lasted less than seven minutes at a busy hypermarket in Seberang Jaya near here.

The robbers entered the jewellery shop located on the first-floor of the hypermarket on the pretext of buying gold chains for their wives at 2.10pm.

While the salesgirls were displaying the jewellery, the three suddenly whipped out their guns and shouted “This is a robbery” in Hokkien.

They then ordered the salesgirls to take out the jewellery trays from the showcase and place them in their bags.
