Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng joins Kita

Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) president Zaid Ibrahim today announced the admission of Nibong Tebal parliamentarian Tan Tee Beng, into the ranks of his fledgling party.

"I am proud to announce that barely a week after the party's name-change and a new constitution was approved, we have managed to attract a young MP like Tan into our fold," said a beaming Zaid during a press conference at Tropicana, Petalling Jaya.

He praised Tan's decision as a "brave" move, adding that it will further strenghten and galvanise the newly-refrocked party.

Zaid's big dreams for Kita

FOR a party that's less than three months old, Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) is certainly ambitious.

Last Saturday, its president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim told the press that Kita's aim was to become the country's main opposition party.

It would also cooperate with "just about anyone", including the newly-introduced Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM).

Zaid had given a 15 to 20-year timeframe to achieve the ambition.

But is that possible, considering the many brickbats Kita had received even before its rather pompous launch on Jan 19?

"Have I done anything that failed? I have had many setbacks but I have not failed," Zaid said in a recent interview. He was responding to critics that Kita would die a natural death, judging from the lack of excitement it had sparked since it was formed.

Zaid Ibrahim file petition to court about wide rampant bribery in Hulu Selangor election.

Defeated PKR Hulu Selangor by-election candidate Zaid Ibrahim today filed a petition to invalidate the election result, claiming widespread bribery was perpetrated in his opponent's campaign.

The petition was filed on the grounds that the BN candidate P Kamalanathan had directly or indirectly known about offers made by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during the campaign, to entice Hulu Selangor voters to cast their ballots for the ruling coalition.

Defeated PKR candidate Datuk Zaid Ibrahim today filed an election petition to declare the Hulu Selangor by-election void, alleging bribery by rival Barisan Nasional.

The petition was filed at the Shah Alam High Court registry, under Section 32(a) and 32(c) of the Election Offences Act 1954.

The petition identified five instances of alleged corruption, including the allocation of RM3 million to SJK(C) Rasa and next-of-kin payments to Sungai Buaya Felda settlers in the run-up to the April 25 by-election.

Zaid lost by 1,725 votes to MIC public relations chief P. Kamalanathan, who recaptured the BN stronghold that was lost by 198 votes in Election 2008.

Zaid: Najib manipulating Sultan's statement

PKR politician Zaid Ibrahim , who just lost in Hulu Selangor by election to BN candidate.

Pakatan Rakyat’s star politician, Zaid Ibrahim, has accused Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak of trying to mislead Muslims over the Sultan of Selangor’s statement about using mosques for political purposes.

In the latest blog posting, Zaid said the sultan was giving his personal opinion, not issuing a decree.

He said the sultan could not have issued a decree on the matter because it would have been against the Federal Constitution.

PETALING JAYA: Some 30 activists from Perkasa and other Malay rights societies staged a protest outside PKR headquarters in Tropicana here this afternoon, setting alight a wooden effigy of Zaid Ibrahim, PKR supreme council member.

The effigy was a parody photograph of Zaid flexing his muscles and holding a bottle of Carlsberg beer, with the words "Hero of Traitors" emblazoned across the figure.

PKR official Radin Shamsulkamar said the protesters, who carried banners and placards, hurled obscenities and harassed the staff as well.

They also chanted slogans such as “Zaid kaki botol” (alcoholic) and “Chase him away from Selangor”. Zaid was PKR's election candidate in Hulu Selangor last month, where he became the subject of a similar character assassination campaign.

The protesters then read out a memorandum before handing it over to a PKR representative.

Zaid's effigy set on fire outside PKR HQ

A group representatives from Malay NGOs torched an effigy of Zaid Ibrahim in front of the PKR headquarters today in protest of the opposition politician's alleged treason against the state.

Leading a 30-strong crowd chanting, Perkasa Youth chief Armand Azhar Abu Hanifah accused Zaid of being a "traitor" over a posting in his blog yesterday.

If you cannot accept the Sultan as the head of Islam, please leave the state! You are now on Selangor territory, if you cannot respect the Selangor Sultan, we deem you to be traitors to the race! said Armand.
