MPs want Anwar to step down

Several Independ-ent MPs have called on Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to step down to preserve Parliament's sanctity in light of revelations that the man in the sex video was “99.99% certain” to be him.

Bayan Baru MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohd Hashim said Pakatan Rakyat leaders should make a stand and ask Anwar to resign.

“Some PKR MPs told me they are quitting politics because Anwar has misled them,” he said, adding that Anwar should be the one to quit instead and “migrate elsewhere”.

Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong said Anwar should resign for lodging a false report when he claimed that the video was fabricated.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim shrugged off today’s revelation in court that US experts had pointed him out as the man in a recent sex video, maintaining that the entire case was a conspiracy by political adversaries.

The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader was a picture of calm when approached by reporters asking for his next course of action, at the sidelines of an economic talk at the Quality Hotel here,

Shrugging, Anwar said he had anticipated the outcome of today’s court proceedings, claiming to be unaffected by it.

“I think it is all pre-arranged. The prosecution would, as you know, ensure they get a light sentence and then they would of course try and use this to make inferences.

MP shows sex video ‘documentary’ in bid to prove Anwar’s innocence

PKR’s Datuk Johari Abdul today maintained that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not the man in the infamous “Datuk T” sex video, saying that there are “1,000 possibilities” as to the identity of the individual featured in the recording.

A magistrate’s court in Kuala Lumpur was told this morning that US authorities had identified the man in the controversial sex video screened by “Datuk T” as Anwar.

The point was raised in the facts of the case read out today after the “Datuk T” trio of Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and Datuk Shuib Lazim pleaded guilty to their involvement in the screening of the video on March 21.

To rebut the statement in court today, Johari showed to reporters here today a self-made “documentary” on the sex video, where the PKR leader himself was the “host”.

“There are 1,000 possibilities to the actor in the video… what we know is that it cannot be Anwar because of many reasons,” said Johari in the video.

Anwar unconvinced about 'Datuk T' charge

Anwar Ibrahim is unconvinced that anything will come of the charge against the 'Datuk T' trio in relation to a sex video that has implicated him despite his denial of involvement.

"Knowing the AG (attorney-general) and his track record, I'm sure it will be a very minimal sort of charge to appease the forces (Umno), like the other politically motivated charges, except when it involves the opposition leaders," he said.

Businessperson Shazryl Eskay Abdullah said earlier today that the three will be charged at a Kuala Lumpur court on Friday.

"I don't know,(I) didn't hear, cases like these (are) postponed (for) many months, (it) will raise many questions," complained Anwar when approached in the Parliament lobby today.

‘Datuk T’ to get off easy

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim predicted today that the “Datuk T” trio will likely be slapped with “minimal charges” for their involvement in the sex video caper.

The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader appeared unaffected when informed this afternoon that the trio behind the sex video purportedly featuring him with a foreign prostitute are expected to be charged in court this Friday.

“Knowing the Attorney-General and his track record, I am sure it will be a very minimal sort of charge to appease the forces, like all other politically motivated charges, except when it involves opposition leaders,” he told reporters at a press conference in Parliament.

Anwar added that he was “unconvinced” that the government was serious in its bid to take action against the trio, reiterating his belief that the men were agents of the ruling party.

Anwar wants judge dropped for ‘prejudging’ trial

Anwar says the judge accepted the prosecution’s arguments wholesale

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim now wants Datuk Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah to step down as the judge in the Sodomy II trial for “prejudging” the trial even before the Opposition leader had a chance to enter his defence.

Mohd Zabidin had ruled on May 16 that Anwar would have to defend himself on a charge of sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan three years ago, and concluded there was a prima facie case against the 63-year-old Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader.

The Permatang Pauh MP will be filing a motion for Mohd Zabidin’s recusal at the Kuala Lumpur High Court tomorrow morning.

Eskay close to Thai insurgents, leaked US cable shows

The cable mentioned allegations of Shazryl’s involvement in “controversial business deals in the past.”

A leaked United States diplomatic cable has revealed that Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah was close to veteran Thai separatists hiding out in Malaysia, blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin’s website reported today.

Shazryl topped newspaper headlines in Malaysia recently for releasing a video purportedly showing Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim having sex with a prostitute. He also lost a legal suit for RM20 million for commission in the aborted crooked bridge to Singapore.

Raja Petra’s Malaysia Today website recently began collaborating with whistleblowers WikiLeaks and said it has been given access to a cache of US diplomatic cables relating to Malaysia.

In one such 2006 cable, then US embassy political chief Mark Clark was said to have met Shazryl —then the Honorary Thai Consul — in Langkawi on February 5, 2006 and was told details of how the insurgents operated.

Anwar: Cops take big risk in naming man in sex video

It has been a rough year so far for Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and things are not looking to get much rosier.

Facing fresh allegations of yet another sex scandal and last week ordered to enter his defence in a sodomy trial, the PKR de facto leader was admittedly worse for the wear.

"I need a few weeks of rest," said the chuckling 63-year-old in an exclusive interview last week.

"But give up and give free reign to (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) and (his wife) Rosmah (Mansor)? That's not possible."

The police are not legally bound to reveal the identity of the man resembling an Opposition leader in the controversial sex video, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said.

Deputy IGP: Don’t force cops to reveal man in sex video

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar (picture) warned the public today to stop trying to force the police to reveal the identity of the man in the sex video which many have claimed to be Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Khalid said that since the case was being investigated under Section 292 of the Penal Code in relation to the offence of possession and distribution of pornography, there is no need for the police to reveal the identity of the individual in the video.

“There is no legal need to reveal the identity of the person. If we go above what is legally permitted, we will be accused of being politically motivated.

“We are carrying out our duties in investigating this case. What we cannot reveal we won’t reveal ... Don’t pressure us, we are following the law,” Khalid was quoted by Bernama Online as saying.

Anwar to lead even if jailed, says Guan Eng

Anwar was told on Monday to enter his defence in his ongoing sodomy trial

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng declared today that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will remain as Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) Opposition Leader in Parliament even if he is jailed for sodomy.

Lim said the PR leadership have agreed that Anwar will hold on to the post “as long as he is still an MP” and until all legal avenues are exhausted.

“There is no replacement of opposition leader. Definitely no replacement. As long as he is an MP, he will not be replaced,” he told reporters after attending the launch of the George Town Festival 2011 at the Lot 10 shopping centre here this morning.

Lim pointed out that even if Anwar is jailed for sodomy, the PKR de facto leader would still have the opportunity to appeal his conviction.

“He does not necessarily lose his MP seat just because he is jailed. Like me, when I went to jail, I was still an MP. I was an MP until my pardon was resolved.

Anwar’s driver claims murder attempt on boss

File photo of a Mercedes S350. Abdullah Sani claimed that the brakes of a similar model of the car had been tampered with.

PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s driver today alleged a sinister murder attempt on his boss after discovering that the brakes of the Mercedes Benz he was driving had been tampered with last month.

Abdullah Sani Said, the 51-year-old driver who has worked with Anwar for 28 years since the latter was still the deputy prime minister, lodged a police report on the incident at the Tropicana police station outside the party’s national headquarters here this evening.

Abdullah Sani said he made the discovery on April 19 following an incident on his journey back to Kuala Lumpur from Perak in the Mercedes Benz S350 with the number plate KCD 77 which, he said, was on loan to Anwar from a close friend.

Umno info chief says convinced man in sex video is Anwar

Ahmad Maslan (C) said at a forum today that it would be “the stupidest strategy” for Umno if they were the ones behind Anwar’s second sodomy trial and purported sex tape.

Umno information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said today that he had watched with his wife a sex video released recently and is convinced the man featured is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Ahmad was responding to a question on the sex video that has been widely circulated, during a forum organised today by Umno.

“There is no conspiracy here. What has been said by (Datuk Shazryl) Eskay is true and those who have watched the video admit that it is true. I have seen the video and admit that Anwar Ibrahim is in the video ... Yes, I watched it with my wife,” he said.

Last month, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah performed the sumpah laknat oath by swearing in God’s name that Anwar is the man featured in a sex video that was recently shown to journalists.

Eskay denies hiring woman in sex video

Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, the main person behind the screening of a sex video featuring a man resembling Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, has denied any role in hiring the woman seen in the footage.

Eskay Shazryl fails to get his RM20 million

Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah walked away empty-handed today after the High Court here dismissed his RM20 million suit against Merong Mahawangsa Sdn Bhd and its executive director Datuk Yahya A. Jalil.

While Justice Datuk V.T. Singham agreed that Shazryl should have been paid RM20 million for helping procure rights to the “crooked bridge” project as agreed upon in a letter of undertaking between him and the defendants, the businessman was also bound by a clause therein which demands that the sum be refunded if the project is cancelled.

Singham said earlier that the defendants had failed to prove that the contract and the way it was secured was “injurious to public policy”, as stated in their written submission.

“This court is unable to regard the nature of the services rendered inimitable or opposed to public policy,” he said.

Everybody has the right to sumpah laknat, says PM

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today that everybody has the right to perform a sumpah laknat oath but the government will not interfere by encouraging or deterring the act.

The prime minister was referring to the sumpah laknat oath taken by Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah today by swearing in God’s name that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the man featured in a sex video that was recently shown to journalists.

Najib (picture), who is also the Umno president, stressed that individuals and political parties should take the same approach as the government.
